Real Economics here, your one and only source into the world of Australian Economics.

The above article from The ABC speaks about a recent influx of Greek immigrants into northern Australia. Many of these Greeks who lost it all back home are making the most of the strong labour conditions in Australia's top end. Do you think we should encourage this growth which is aiding people who want and need to start a new life, or do these jobs belong to the unemployed of New South Wales and Victoria (forget Tasmania). xoxo Real Economics.

  1. Jingoism is alive and well if we exclude prospective workers based on nationality. Greek skilled workers, if willing, should be encouraged to work on the 'major gas line' project. If engineers from Victoria and NSW are unwilling to relocate (poor labour mobility)the migrant influx can only serve to quell cost-side inflationary pressures in the top-end.

    1. Australians are defintely a patriotic bunch, and I agree that increasing the amount of migrants in Australia is a good thing. This is also similar to the Gina Rinehart situation. Do you think that she should be allowed to bring in 1700 overseas workers to work in the Pilbara or should these jobs go to Australians? Are many of the unemployed in New South Wales and Victoria willing to move to the west, or are they content with the securities of their current location? Moreover, should the awards set be Rinehart be higher to attract more east-coasters? After all she is Australia's richest woman, and on course to be the world's richest person. xoxo Real Economics
